SCOPE OF SERVICES

Gyphon provides the full scope of electrical services that are required for power generation, utility, industrial and distribution projects. Gryphon provides electrical engineering and design services from conception through to commissioning, in a variety of roles, including the following:
  • Feasibility studies for new plants and upgrades
  • Preliminary design and cost estimating
  • Power system analysis
  • Preparation of equipment specifications, vendor review and contract administration
  • Detail design and drafting
  • Construction documents and specifications
  • Construction and commissioning support
  • Protective relaying schemes, relay setting and coordination studies
  • Services such as Design-Build engineer, Owner's engineer, Joint-Venture engineer and Lender's engineer
  • Due diligence reviews

ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS AND EQUIPMENT

Gryphon has experience in the design, procurement, specification and implementation of the electrical equipment required in power plant, industrial and distribution installations, including:
  • AC synchronous generators for gas and steam turbines, and
     reciprocating engines complete with static or brushless excitation
     systems and power system stabilizers
  • AC switchgear including generator, distribution and feeder breakers
    and current limiting reactors or other in-line devices
  • Transformer and HV switchyard equipment, including power transformers for generator step-up duty, disconnect switches, circuit switchers, circuit breakers, cabling, bus-work and metering
  • HV transformers and switching substations
  • Distribution transformers for industrial installations
  • Variable speed drives for power plant auxiliaries and industrial processes
  • Power plant auxiliary and industrial equipment including bus duct,
    cable bus duct, cable tray layout and design, low voltage switchgear and motor control centres
  • DC power, battery and charger systems; UPS systems
  • Power metering and protective relaying systems
  • Power factor correction economic studies and implementation
REPRESENTATIVE PROJECTS & ACTIVITIES
  • Lake Superior Power - Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario - Conceptual & preliminary engineering for the design-build execution of the 110 MW combined-cycle cogeneration plant's 115 kV switchyard and transformer yard and for the 2 x 115 kV submarine transmission cable contract
  • Union Gas Power - Ford Windsor Steam Turbine Generator Project – Windsor, Ontario - Complete electrical services for the joint-venture 28.5 MW auto-extraction condensing steam turbine generator project, including protection, metering, 13.8 kV, 600 V, 120V, 125VDC and UPS equipment
  • Potter Station Power GTG Replacement Project - Tunis, Ontario - Electrical integration of a new 40 MW gas turbine generator into an existing power plant, including new 13.8 kV and 600V equipment, controls and metering
  • Cornell University - Ithaca, New York - Complete electrical engineering design for the Boiler No. 6 & 7 Replacement project and the Chiller No. 8 project, and detailed design for the Lake Source Cooling Heat Exchange facility
  • Kimberly Clark - Steam Turbine Project - Terrace Bay, Ontario - Generator and system protection for 20 MW backpressure steam turbine generator
  • TransCanada Power - North Bay & Kapuskasing Projects - Preliminary electrical design and specifications for the new 55 MW combined-cycle plant. Detail design of the 13.8 kV electrical systems including generator and system protection
  • Ocelot Energy Inc. and TransCanada Pipelines - Ubungo Power Plant, Tanzania - Complete electrical engineering design for the upgrade of an existing turbine power plant, including expansion of the transformer yard and upgrade of the Infi90 DCS
  • Atomic Energy of Canada Limited - Boiler Replacement Project - Chalk River, Ontario - Conceptual and preliminary engineering for new 120,000 lb/hr oil-fired boilers. Continued on as Owners' Engineer, reviewing design build execution of the project
  • Henderson Hospital - Hamilton, Ontario - Complete electrical engineering design for the new 70,000 lb/hr Steam Plant and building
  • TransCanada Power - Kapuskasing and Nipigon Plant Upgrade - Complete electrical engineering design for the addition of one new OTSG for the existing Rolls-Royce RB211 at each plant, and for the DCS upgrade
  • 3M Canada - Brockville Chilled Water Plant - Electrical engineering design for the new chilled water plant involving the addition of a new 250 ton chiller and relocation of an existing 240 ton chiller, plus control system upgrades
  • Northland Power - Kirkland Lake Condenser Upgrade - Complete electrical engineering design for the upgrade of the existing STG condenser including fans, variable speed drives and control system upgrades
  • Ontario Hydro - Bruce Heavy Water Plant - Alternate Steam Supply - Full scope of electrical engineering for a 450,000 lb/hr green field steam plant
  • Ontario Hydro – Bruce Heavy Water Plant – Reconfiguration Project – Full scope of electrical engineering for the reconfiguration project including demolition drawings and new MV cabling
  • Ontario Hydro – Bruce Heavy Water Plant – Establishment of two 2 MW emergency diesel generators and modifications to the Class III Standby Power Facility MV 13.8 kV substation switchgear
  • Westcoast Bayside Power Project, Courtney Bay, Saint John, New Brunswick – Modifications to the MV 4.16 kV switchgear and interlocking scheme associated with repowering steam turbine Unit 3 from a gas turbine
  • F&P Manufacturing – Distribution system studies and protection coordination of selected circuits
  • Northland Power - Replacement of ST02 steam turbine. Modifications to electrical primary circuits and protection schemes
  • Lake Superior Power – Electric Boiler – Full range of electrical engineering services
